Samuel Williams (1743-1817) was the son of Rev. Warham Williams (1699-1751) of Waltham, Mass. In 1761 he graduated from Harvard College and became minister of Bradford, Mass., until 1779 when he was chosen professor of philosophy at Harvard. Williams was a member of the American Philosophical Society, helped organize the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and served on various state commissions.
